Planners Comments

Thanks everyone for coming along and making it so worthwhile planning on such an interesting area. 200 is a great turn out and the winning 4.13 mins per km is an awesome pace even on a flat fast area.

The organisational team thought hard about how to avoid bunching and trains at the start and decided against the various compulsory control methods and opted for trying to solve it with planning which I think worked about as well as I had hoped.

Thanks to the controller Marcus, particularly for bringing his bike for our reccy and thanks to the Craig’s for their as always excellent organisation.

Thanks also to the control collectors, particularly my junior volunteers and with my SI hat on the download team for keeping things nice and slick. There is no easy way to cope with those running ‘up’ but we did it by waiting until everybody had downloaded and correcting them from the captains sheets.

I hope that everyone has a happy, healthy and successful 2013

Organisers Comments

Thanks to everybody who came along, kept muddy boots out of the gym and donated to the MOD Stafford welfare fund which supports many local civilian and military charities.  The site and facilities were willingly given over for our event by MOD Stafford.  Numbers were 25% higher than the last few years and this was most probably helped by the glorious weather.  I believe the catering went down well and this was a maiden outing for the Sodexo team. Well Done to OD for taking the trophies home again.

Controllers comments

After a very fraught Saltwells event with large range of safety implications, this event was smoothness itself.
Probably the most difficult decision was agreeing scale of map and the start location. Certainly going round with Mark on bikes meant the adjustment of control descriptions and minor changes of position of controls were done very effectively.
It is interesting to note that although the starters split up well at the start only 1 of the top 20 didn’t do either the NE loop or NW loop first and all cut from 160 to 163 or vice versa.
Points to note for future scores with map exchange.
2 competitors (Simon Hargreave and Adrian Griffiths) picked control 204 during their first circuit (although Simon picked it up again in his second circuit).
Jim Matthews picked up 205 in first circuit
Ian Jones only picked up 23 controls from first map, and then added 3 from second.
Theoretically these should have been deducted 10 (Ian Jones 30) but it would make no change to the team results
Cheers
Marcus
Oh, & well done Tracy on organising the weather!
