Club Captain Adam, made the journey to Scotland last weekend for the British Night Orienteering Champs. A challenging area, particularly at night, but a great result for Adam, and ex-Chaser Mike. Here are Adam’s reflections:
I (Mark Stodgell also made the trip), thoroughly enjoyed a weekend up in Scotland for the British Night Championships and UK Orienteering League event the following day. Arriving at the assembly on Saturday night in the Park and Ride at Stirling, the feeling was somewhat eerie, and the coach ride into the kit dump and event area was very sombre, I thought – a great number (me included), wondering what was to come. The terrain was tough and technical – very well planned – with longer courses starting on the open moor, then with an intricate control-pick in the downhill final quarter. A couple of legs on my course were absolutely brutal – not aided with my (John R’s), headtorch giving up on me, forcing a quick switch (to Andy L’s) – thanks both for lending these. Really glad of a fantastic experience, and partnered with an interesting middle race at Plean Country Park on Sunday it all made for great weekend.
(A quick shout-out to my friend and former Chaser Michael Hopkins, who is now M35L British Night Champion. Talks have commenced to get him running for Chasers again in the future!).
