Terrain:The area is at Rawnsley forest special events area All parts of the competition area have steep slopes, sometimes very steep. Please take care, particularly on descents. There are sandy, gravely and clay sections. Rawnsley is also used by the Forestry Commission for 4x4 driving days. This has given rise to a network of tracks that are wide enough for a vehicle but often consist of two very deep but narrow ruts that are difficult to ride. These are mapped accordingly. If the weather has been wet some of these sections can be veritable mud-baths. There is a ‘Downhill Mountain Bike’ area in part of Rawnsley. No course enters the area but you must take care should you take an indirect route. There are four bridleways in the competition area. All are shown clearly on the map in bright red. You may not cycle along any of these. You may cross them only at the marked crossing points and you must give way to others at these points.

Sorry, due to a new area of out of bounds introduced for some proposed felling the courses have had to be shorter. They are probably best described as Long Middle.

Final details:

Car parking will be very limited, please share transport where possible and park where indicated close together. Please do not block entrances to houses.

Overflow car parking will be at the Cannock Chase Enterprise Centre public Car park approx 2 kilometres distant, directions will be given if in use.

No Toilets onsite please use toilets in Cannock or Rugeley or the visitors centres  on the Chase.

There is a downhill MTB race / training day taking place in the forest. The downhill tracks are marked OOBs but please note a climb on the long course is shared with the downhill ‘push up’ Please be courteous and take care.

Start and Finish are both 400m remote from the car park.

Longer courses will have a map exchange (double sided map).

There are many mountain bikers on the area, please give way and ride with caution at all times. Please observe one way tracks.

Saftey:
  • Competitors take part at their own risk.
  • Whistles must be carried.
  • Full leg cover is required for all competitors (no shorts)
  • In case of bad weather competitors may be required to wear(carry) water or wind-proof tops.
  • Canncok Chase generally has been undermined and liable to mining subsidence.
    Areas marked out of bounds close to known in-filled fissure lines must be strictly avoided. Care must be taken as new fissures could suddenly occur away from these known areas.
