White Rose 2012

Crowded House would have been impressed as the White Rose didnt disappoint, managing about 6 seasons in one day never mind 4. Wind, rain, mud, heavy rain rain, sun, lightning storms, mist, more mud and a then some wind didnt dampen the spirits of the Stamps, McClure (on loan) or Dawsons  who camped at Pool Farm at the event centre in a really well organised area;  the Craigs who camped down the road or the Yeates’s who (possibly wisely) stopped in a Premier Inn.

From a personal perspective the two days couldnt have been more different with Day 1 a fairly unispiring area ending with a run in that was about a third of the length of my course which reminded me why I dont like running green courses as they often seem to be overlooked and not always very well planned.

Day 2 on the other hand again wasnt the most brilliant of areas (but then this is the White Rose) but I thought the Green was superbly planned squeezing every ounce out of the area and giving it the feel of a middle course with constant changes of direction and skills. But then I had a much better run and following Day 1 just managed to unchick myself on the overall results so maybe Im a touch biased.

On Day 3 Claire, Iain and myself did the Harris relay although we had to have a non competitive run as theyd somehow managed to run out of maps for our course whilst having a bagful of unused maps for all the other courses. We had a fun hour only let down by my exhaustion (and Iain giving me a suspiciously longer than him route) meaning I didnt manage to get back to the pre agreed 45 minute rendevous point (thanks to Dougie’s advice on how to do a Harris relay) until the time had run out! But Iain was waiting there to pace me back in meaning we were only 3 minutes late!

I also ran the 1:1000 micro sprint in the small wood next to the camping area and Iain, Claire and Di beat Carley and I into 3rd place  on the quiz by being closer to guessing the amount of paperclips in a jar.
