JK Orienteering Festival 2025

The annual JK festival took place over the Easter weekend, this year in South Yorkshire.  Friday was a sprint race in Sheffield City Centre and was quite a spectacle finishing in the Peace Gardens. Best placed Chaser was Iain with 7th position out of 82 in the M45 class.
Saturday was the middle distance race in Tankersley, a tricky forested area with many bell pits and intricate earthworks.  Top results today were Dan (2nd M40S), Iain (5th M45L), Claire (4th W45S), Judith (5th W55S), Alison (7th W55S).
On Sunday we moved to Wharncliffe for the long race, a famously challenging orienteering area with our own Andy Y as event controller.  Top 10 runs were had by Dan (2nd M40S), Iain (3rd M45L), Claire (10th W45S), Judith (2nd W55S), Alison (9th W55S).
Overall positions (combined days 2 &3) gave us more top 10 positions: Dan (1st M40S), Iain (3rd M45L), Claire (6th W45S), Judith (2nd W55S), Alison (7th W55S). Huge congratulations to everyone, particularly to Iain for getting on the podium.
The final day was the relays at Middleton Park in Leeds, with wooded valleys and fast racing. Our best show was in the Men’s Intermediate class where Chasers’ Fraser and Jonah, combined with neighbouring OD’s Adam to earn a place on the podium in 3rd place – a great result.
Next year is in Scotland, so make sure you put it in your diary for next Easter.
