Away Weekend 2011

Coaching weekend in South Wales, 15-17 April 2011, suitable for orange to elite standard of orienteers of all ages (very few line features on the maps to be used – inexperienced orienteers/juniors will be catered for, but the weekend is not aimed at them).

Saturday: Training exercises on Merthyr Mawr, Bridgend – a complex, open grassy sand dune area, featuring the second highest sand dune in Europe (a race up & back down it is a must!!).

Satuday night: Training loop in the dark on The Blorenge (headtorch needed!).

Sunday: “Training Championships” course to put into practice the training from Merthyr Mawr, & hopefully some exercises/games (time permitting) on Pwll Du, Blaenavon, used for the British Champs in 2007 – a complex, open mining area.

Accommodation is in the Pwll Du Wilderness Centre Bunk House http://www.wildernesscentre.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4&Itemid=6, is 50metres from the Pwll Du map, 15 minutes from Abergavenny & about 50 minutes from Merthyr Mawr, 2 minutes from The Blorenge.

The cost of the weekend will depend on numbers – £216/night to hire the centre for the weekend, split between everyone who goes, plus food – we can sort communal cooking nearer the time (volunteers welcomed!).

First come, first served on the accommodation, & it’s filling up fast following advertising at events over the last few weekends!
