Summer Tuesdays – Club Nights
Technical training based on Cannock Chase for all club members: each evening is aimed at a particular orienteering element, with both technical exercises and competitions throughout the summer. Coaching is available each week. For inexperienced orienteers and younger juniors, there is always a course available, too.
Summer Thursdays
Club runs on Cannock Chase: open to all seniors and older juniors, the runs are in groups and last up to an hour running in terrain as far as possible.
The run is always followed by a trip to a local pub for a meal.
Winter Tuesdays
Training is based at Walton High School, and uses their gym and swimming pool. Training is free and open to all club members.
7.00 – 7.45 – Senior Circuit Training
7.45 – 8.15 – Senior Run
7.45 – 8.15 – Junior Training (gym based, looking at O technique, preparing for events, debriefing after events etc)
8.15 – 8.45 – Swim
Winter Thursdays
Group run from members houses for older juniors and seniors. Several club members live close enough to the Chase to be able to run on it at night, otherwise there is a road run. In groups, the runs last up to an hour. These are always followed by fish & chips, and Jaffa Cakes.
Away days
Every spring, there is a Club Day away from the Chase. In recent years, we have gone to Great Tower Wood (Lake District) and Formby Sands. We try and pick a weekend where we can train on a Saturday and compete locally the following day. Training is free, and open to all club members who are competent on TD4+ (light green +) courses.
Junior Junior Training Days
Each school holiday, we have a day on the Chase for white – orange standard juniors to practice basic techniques and find out about more advanced techniques. We try and have enough coaches and helpers around so the juniors can have 1:1 help to get the most out of the days.
Club Days
Starting in winter 2006, we hope to be organising days based in a Forestry Commission room on the Chase from where a series of training exercises will be available for abilities and ages, as well as a warm room for eating and gossiping….watch this space.
