Planners Comments Firstly I would like to thank everyone for the encouragement, support and guidance I have received whilst planning this my first- event. Rawnsley was always, by its very nature, going to be physically hard going. The area is predominantly ridges dissected with deep re-entrants, it has an intricate path network and the terrain is typical of a working forest. i.e. it can be fairly rough under foot in places Early planning had to take into account new four wheel drive tracks, felling and a host of new - and under construction - mountain bike tracks which had, and were being created throughout the area. My main concern was with the mountain bikes and the safety of younger competitors, so keeping them away from these tracks dictated the positioning of the start and steepness called for a separate finish for the White. In planning the longer courses climb was unavoidable if adequate length was to be achieved. This meant that skilled route choice would be essential to avoid unnecessary climb. The courses used as wide a variety of terrain and leg length to allow for variation, and as far as the area would allow I tried to incorporate a level of complexity. I can only apologise for the incorrect climb given on the control descriptions for the Green and Blue courses, sometimes human and OCAD just won’t gel. A big thank you to my fellow planner Also thank you to Doug for the updated maps, Cath and Stodge for map printing and last minute alterations, Garry, Alan, Andy, Chris and Diana for putting controls out, and last but not least Ian, Sue, Jonathan, Diana, Doug, Helen and Dave for bringing the controls back in.
