The first event of the Chasers Summer Handicap Relay League saw a close race, with the Little boys being overhauled by the Dredge girls who took home a small lead in the League, and more importantly, their winners mugs!

The second event took place at Stone Common, an area never previously used by the club. The terrain was less complicated than Gentleshaw and produced some excellent sprint-O, with the father and son combination of Jonathan and Oliver Howell just beating Carol and Sarah Dredge to the win.

For the third event, Park-O hit Stafford. Rowley Park in a heat wave will hopefully prove to be excellent speed training for Matt Crane before he heads off to the World Champs in the next few weeks. However, his team was beaten into second place by Andy Yeates and Emily Garside, full of confidence after her selection for the English team for the Home Internationals in October.

The fine weather held for the fourth event on Hednesford Camp. Several newcomers to the league joined in the action, with the Stuart and Beth Clayton winning narrowly from Matt Crane and Rob Little. The new league leaders are the Dredges, who leapfrogged the Howells, following their close third position. Paul Averis has challenged anyone and everyone to a cake eating competition following his performance.

At last Matt Crane found a partner he could win with at the 3rd attempt! In fading light, a close competition saw Matt and Ray take the mugs – the fifth winning team in 5 events. It was a close finish, with Ray just ahead of Mark Garside and Mike Thompson in 2nd and 3rd place. Competitive and consistent running from Carol and Sarah Dredge saw them take over 90 points in the 4 events they competed in, taking the overall title, with Ollie and Jonathan Howell in an excellent second position.

Feedback from the series would be appreciated so it can be developed and improved for next year.

Thank you to everybody who ran over the series, particularly to those who collected in controls for me at the end of the evening!

Cath.
