The weather was very kind to us - which helped most people to be in good spirits most of the time! Thanks to SCC, including the Visitors' Centre, for their help and co-operation, and to ALL the hard working helpers. Please come again - but help me by printing names clearly on the control cards. To those teachers who gave me a list of names of pupils, a big THANKYOU, as I could put their full names on the results and not have to make an inspired(?) guess on some. Sorry that some will not be quite right. If you did not ask for Maps and Participation Certificates for all your pupils, please contact Peter Palmer for them. Once again the organising team got the basics right. This year Peter was able to use an electric wheel chair to see what was actually happening on the Courses he had planned. Most children appeared to be enjoying themselves and running hard, but not always in the right direction! Some had real difficulty in orientating the map to the ground and headed off in the wrong direction. Those who had mastered this skill had no problems with the Courses. 75% were trying hard and knew what they were trying to do. A small number ran around asking helpers and other groups, and did not read their maps. A few were playing about and causing problems - maybe these should not be allowed to return next year. Many thanks to all WCH who helped throughout the day, particularly to Heather - the organiser of the Day and compiler of Results. Controls were put out in the area and collected in afterwards by a team. Registration/Start/Finish and Results were all manned cheerfully. Most carried mobile phones allowing contact with those patrolling the area to deal with any problems quickly. Thanks to SCC for providing such an excellent venue, and mainly to you, the Teachers and Children, who supported the Event and had such a good day out. Perhaps next year we will give Birches Valley a try - originally planned for 2001. If you enjoyed yourselves - spread the message so that more young people can try this fascinating sport.
