About the club

Walton Chasers Orienteering Club or ‘Chasers’ is centred on Cannock Chase, and has members from Stafford and surrounding areas, including Stone, Staffordshire Moorlands, Cannock, Rugeley, Uttoxeter, Lichfield, Tamworth and the northern parts of Wolverhampton and Walsall.

Created in 1969, Walton Chasers is one of the most successful orienteering clubs in the country. Many juniors who started orienteering with Walton Chasers have gone on to successfully represent Great Britain as full internationals and many of our current members represent the West Midlands and England at Inter Regional and International events.

In 2005 Walton Chasers were awarded the Sport England Clubmark, which means that we are committed to being a safe, effective, child-friendly sports club.

Walton Chasers organise several competitive events of varying size every year. Currently we offer beginners events, West Midlands league events and schools championships, as well as regional / national / championship standard events. We are also drawing up plans to expand our range of events to include such events as Sprint O, Long O, Bike O, and even a multi-discipline event (Foot O AND Bike O!). As well as open events, there is also the annual Club Championships held every January, and just as competitive are the two terrain X country races (handicap races held in June and just before Christmas). We enter teams in both the men’s and women’s Staffordshire Cross Country league every winter, and in the summer enter the Peak District footpath relay. Want to improve your skills? Or stop them getting rusty? Regular twice weekly training sessions run throughout the year, using Cannock Chase as soon as the evenings are light enough. For a change of scenery, club training weekends are organised on technical areas outside Staffordshire.

The annual Club Dinner/Party and prize giving happens every January, one for the juniors, and one for the seniors. After the summer handicap race there is usually a club barbeque. The Thursday evening training sessions are social occasions in the summer, the run is followed by food and drinks at a local pub, and in the winter the run is usually followed by fish and chips in member’s houses. We have a monthly newsletter, Attack Point, to keep us up to date with fixtures, results, gossip and event reports.Come and join us.
