Jubilee Tour Weekend!

The rain is not dampening the spirits of Staffordshire Walton Chasers Orienteering Club who are currently ‘on tour’ at the London Jubilee Orienteering Festival based in the Surrey Hills where the Olympic road cycling events will be held in July.

The venue for the sprint event on Saturday was the Guildford campus of Surrey University, a world class sprint venue used a few years back for the World Cup qualifiers.

The results were decided from the total time of two races so consistency was key in the intricate campus. Iain Stamp excelled by winning the Mens Open course but there were many other good performances too.  The run-in split time was hotly contested between parents and offspring, bringing some impressive sprint finishes out of the cupboard for many.

After an evening of quick cricket, mountain biking and general junior tearing around the hostel grounds the second day was held at Old House Warren where the juniors particularly enjoyed being positively encouraged to get wet and muddy.

Sunday evening brought curry night to Holmbury St Mary Youth Hostel with Chasers mums and dads mass catering for 45, all on a single domestic cooker!

The final 2 days of the tour saw a very technical middle race on the world class terrain of Leith Hill, with Chasers juniors taking the 1-2-3 on the yellow course (Henry, Adam & Holly C), followed by a very sociable score event in the grounds of Balcombe Estate.

It was a great weekend, and Chasers are back in action!
