Seeding and Start Times

Several competitors have entered for the Future Champions' Cup (M/W20L) and for the UK Cup (M/W21L). Those who are seeded have been allocated start times in reverse order of seeding, i.e. the highest seed going last. Non-seeded competitors have been given the earlier start times. Due to the seeding process it has not always been possible to accommodate requests for early/middle/late starts on courses shared with the above classes. Family groups who have requested similar start times may, as a result, have been divided. A few exceptions have been permitted to accommodate specific requests for split starts. We apologise for any inconvenience arising from this seeding procedure.

SportIdent Electronic Punching

The competition is using SportIdent electronic punching. Clear stations will be positioned in the pre-start area. It is your responsibility to ensure that your dibber is cleared at the pre-start, that each SI control unit on your course is activated by your dibber causing a bleep and flashing light, and that you dib the Finish station located in the funnel between the last control and the Download marquee. Please proceed immediately to Download BEFORE having a drink of orange squash, or getting changed, etc.

Start

There is only one start. The distance to the start is 300m, to the left (North) along the forest fence from the gate, through the fence at the marked point, and uphill along a ride (allow 5 minutes walk from the marquee). Please avoid any taped areas. The Start officials will call you up at -2 minutes from your registered time, you will be checked against a printed Start List, and your dibber will be checked for clearance. Late starters should identify themselves to the Start Officials. Your actual start will be when you place your dibber in the Start station, before getting your overprinted map (please check that you have the correct map for your course/class).

Finish

The Finish station is located in the funnel between the last control (forest gate) and the Download marquee. Please ensure that you place your dibber in the Finish station and then proceed immediately to Download BEFORE having a drink of orange squash, or getting changed, etc.

Terrain

Mixed coniferous and deciduous woodland with some open heathland. There are some brambles in places. The lakes and ponds in the forest are deep with muddy bottoms and are not crossable.

Maps

1:15,000 and 1:10,000 maps by Neil Lawford 2003. All courses are overprinted with courses and control descriptions.

Control Descriptions

Control descriptions are overprinted on the maps for all courses. Large versions of the control descriptions will be available on the day for manual copying, or you may obtain them from the internet .

Out of Bounds

All areas marked Out of Bounds on the maps must be strictly avoided.

Safety

There are no road crossings on any course. Cannock Chase is undermined and liable to subsidence. Areas marked Out of Bounds must be strictly avoided. Care must be taken as new fissures could suddenly occur away from these areas. Competitors take part at their own risk. All competitors should carry whistles. Once started, you MUST download even if you retire. Every effort will be made to account for all competitors, but if you are travelling alone, and wish us to check your safe return, please leave your name and car keys in a sealed envelope at Enquiries in the marquee. Please note that this service is provided at your own risk and we cannot be responsible for the keys.

Results

Results will be mounted on the Walton Chasers web site www.walton-chasers.co.uk. In addition you will receive a printed version of the results by snail mail if you have sent a second stamped addressed envelope to pre-entry or left one with postage money on the day. You will receive a printout of your split times at Download. Interim results lists for all courses will be pasted up close to Download and updated at intervals throughout the day.
