CompassSport Trophy entries

WCH are competing in the Compass Sport Trophy final which is being held at Tankersley, near Sheffield on Sunday 17th October.  We need to put entries in before Sept 26th and these are via Club Captain, Ray.  The club will pay for your entry, but Ray needs to know your name, BOF number, 2021 BOF Class, your SI card number (or “hire” if you do not own one), Your preferred start time, and the course you want to run IF it is not your “proper” one.  Don’t forget, everyone can make a difference to the score.  All members will have received an email from Ray, so get your entries in soon.

Chasers on Summer tours

With the re-start of orienteering, events have started taking place over the summer and a small band of Chasers have been taking advantage of races around the country.
Scottish 6 day – the bi-annual event ended up being a 2×3 day event this time around, but we were treated to sunshine and scenery around Fort William in which to run.  8 Chasers competed, with best overall performances by Dan (4th M40S), Garry (5th M80) and Andy (6th M60S).  For an idea of the terrain, have a look at one of the videos – this one from Day 2: The next 6-day will be in Moray in summer 2023 – a date for your diary as this is some of the best terrain in the country!
British Sprints and Mixed Relays – we had just the one team in the relay, then 5 runners in the individual which were both held in Skelmersdale.  Best performances by Dan and Carol who made the ‘A’ finals in their classes.
White Rose – the usual bank holiday weekend event was this year in east Yorkshire – one day on the tricky Skipwith Common and then the York City Race based at the racecourse and running around the south of the city.

Introductory Family O – 3rd July

After an approach from Midlands Psychology to work with the families they support, Walton Chasers arranged an much delayed introductory event using the permanent course markers at the Birches Valley Forestry Centre. The rain more or less held off and on the day four families went round some of the courses following a briefing on how orienteering works.
Results were as follows (permissions obtained):
*The Medway family completed the white and orange courses.  On the white times were 15.29 and 15.39.  The orange times were not recorded by the team.
*The Tiso family had two members completing the white course in 25.10 and 25.13.  They also did the orange but times were not recorded.
*The Ross family completed the orange course in 38.46.
*The Colman family completed the yellow course in 21.55.
Well done to all concerned.  Thanks to the supporting team from Chasers and the Forestry who facilitated the event.
If you are interested in having a go at orienteering, watch this space, as we are looking at what we can do to put on some introductory sessions open to all.

Club training – spring/summer 2021

As we come out of lockdown, British Orienteering guidance allows us to start up our summer training schedule.  This year, we’ll be keeping it to club members only so that we can manage the social distancing.  We hope to start some ‘introduction to orienteering’ sessions later in the year, so watch this space for more news.
