WCH Annual Summer Handicap Race and BBQ

Next Tuesday (25th June) is Chasers’ annual Peel Pursuit Race followed by the summer BBQ.

The run is a handicap race, so the fastest goes off last and first across the line wins the handicap trophy.  There’s also a trophy for the fastest runner.  Once you’ve checked out the route, let Jonathan know what your expected time is so he can put the handicap list together.

Bring your BBQ food for after the run, or just come for the social.

Chasers at the Showground Relays 2019

Two teams from Chasers ran at the Showground Relays on Wednesday evening.  The race this year was notable by the torrential rain and mud, which we dealt with better than many in our off-road shoes!  The results have yet to appear, but both teams (Henry, Claire, Dan, Iain, and John, Andy, Neil, Bob) got under the hour.  Henry was first out of the field (no mean feat), and finished in a superb 13th place (we think) in a smidgen over 10 minutes for the 2 mile loop.  This post will be updated with times / positions when they are published….

Tamworth Urban Race 13th July – entries open!

2019 is Walton Chasers 50th anniversary, and we’re celebrating with (amongst other things), an urban race based in the grounds of Tamworth Castle, with the added bonus of cake for all finishers!  Pre-entries are now open on SiEntries, here and are due to close on 3rd July.   There will be limited entry on the day whilst map stocks last.  Full details can be found in the flyer:

Chasers at the Midland Champs and SINS’19

Plenty of Chasers competed at Springtime in Shropshire this weekend, which comprised an urban race in Shrewsbury (around the busy town centre), a long race at Brown Clee (fantastic technically challenging terrain which incorporated the Midland Championships), and a middle race on the Wrekin (which was just plain steep!).  We now have 4 Midland Champions – Oscar Barnby (M12), Iain Stamp (M35), Carol Dredge (W60) and Bob Dredge (M65).  In the combined 3 days, we had 3 podium finishes – Bob Dregde overall M65 champion (winning all 3 days), Vicky McCreadie (W35 champion), and Carol Dredge (2nd W60).  Well done all!

Come and try orienteering!

Walton Chasers will be running a series of beginner events based at Birches Valley Forestry Centre near Rugeley.  These will take place on 18th May, 1st June 8th June and 20th July. Instruction and coaching will be available.  Suitable for all ages and abilities.  Come along and give it a try!

Chasers at the British Champs

16 Chasers headed north to Yorkshire at the weekend for the British Championships.
A Sprint race took place at Bradford University on Saturday where just Holly, Stodge and Cath competed, coming 5th, 12th and 13th respectively.
On Sunday, the main event, the British Champs, were held on Arncliffe and Kilnsey North, an open moorland area, which was challenging, but very runnable.  Top 20 places went to Cath (4th), Jonah and Bob (both 5th), Holly (10th), Alison (14th) and Stuart and Stodge (both 17th).  Well done everybody.
The British Relays on Monday were held at Middleton Park with the race arena at the South Leeds Stadium (pictured).  Our Women Short team of Holly, Mel and Cath finished in 10th place; our Men’s Short team of Stodge, Stuart and Andy came in in 11th position; our Ad Hoc team of Alison, Jonah and John finished 24th; while our M60 team of Dave, Ray and Jon sadly mispunched.
A great weekend of racing and well worth the trip up north.
