Chasers at the British Champs

16 Chasers headed north to Yorkshire at the weekend for the British Championships.
A Sprint race took place at Bradford University on Saturday where just Holly, Stodge and Cath competed, coming 5th, 12th and 13th respectively.
On Sunday, the main event, the British Champs, were held on Arncliffe and Kilnsey North, an open moorland area, which was challenging, but very runnable.  Top 20 places went to Cath (4th), Jonah and Bob (both 5th), Holly (10th), Alison (14th) and Stuart and Stodge (both 17th).  Well done everybody.
The British Relays on Monday were held at Middleton Park with the race arena at the South Leeds Stadium (pictured).  Our Women Short team of Holly, Mel and Cath finished in 10th place; our Men’s Short team of Stodge, Stuart and Andy came in in 11th position; our Ad Hoc team of Alison, Jonah and John finished 24th; while our M60 team of Dave, Ray and Jon sadly mispunched.
A great weekend of racing and well worth the trip up north.

Chasers at the JK

The JK was held in Hampshire over the Easter weekend, in glorious sunshine. An excellent event with good terrain, arenas, and atmosphere only let down by major issues with the results and little information for the poor commentators. The results have now finally been published and Chasers put in some good top ten performances over the weekend:
In the Sprint race at Aldershot Garrison,  Iain was 7th with Dan close behind in 8th on M35.
At the Middle race, on Windmill Hill, Cath won W45S, Olivia Stamp and Hollie Hughes were 2nd, and Bob, Claire & Iain were 7th.
At the Long race, at Cold Ash, Iain and Olivia Stamp both finished 4th, Cath came in in 5th place and Alison ran into 6th.  Claire finished in 8th.
Overall results (combined Day 2 & 3):  Cath finished 2nd on W45S, Iain and Olivia Stamp both came 4th on M35L and W12B, Alison Yeates finished 6th on W50S, Bob came in 7th on M65L and Claire Stamp ran into 8th place on W35S.
At the Relays at Minley, we had 5 teams running – although no stand out performances, we all had a great day in the sunshine. Well done everybody on a great weekend of racing (and socialising).

Staffordshire & Stoke Schools Champs

On Thursday 28th March some of our juniors from WHS competed in the Staffordshire and Stoke Schools Orienteering Championships. This was held at Forest Park in Hanley and it was a beautiful hot sunny day (a big contrast to last year!). Each of our WHS juniors did a fantastic job and we had many medalists so well done to everyone who competed. A big thank you to the WHS PE staff for making it possible. (written by Iona W)

Walton Chasers 50th anniversary dinner

Last night over 100 past and current members of the club came together to celebrate the club’s 50th year. With ages ranging from 9 to 90, and from as far as Switzerland, we enjoyed many memories, both in photos and newspaper cuttings, and with recollections from Marlene Palmer and Doug Peel. Huge thanks to Sarah Dredge for organising and to Brocton Hall Golf Club for being our hosts. Here’s to the next 50 years!
