Chasers at the Scottish 6 Days

Last week, 17 Chasers headed to Scotland to compete in Royal Deeside 2017, the Scottish 6-day biannual event.  The week’s competition started with 3 days near Aboyne, followed by 3 days near Braemar.  The areas were suitably challenging and the weather kind, and with a club start block day, it was a great social week too.  Best performances of the week were by John Robinson, overall 4th on M65s, with a win on Day 1, and honourable mentions for Dan Findlay-Robinson 3rd on M35S with wins on days 1 and 5 (running for SLOW), and to Jonathan Howell for an excellent 9th on the final day in M65L.  We had a club get together in Braemar on Day 4 with plenty of coffee and cake for Chasers and friends.  Looking forward to Strathearn 2019!

Chasers at the British Mixed Sprint Relays

Today, 2 teams of Chasers headed up into the sunshine at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, Lancashire for the British Mixed Sprint Relays. This is the 1st time this competition has been run (after a trial in Sheffield last year) , and although there weren’t big numbers, it was a good fast and fun relay.  The Open Teams went out first, as a spectator race (with some seriously fast times), then the Vets and Juniors headed out.  We had 2 teams running the 3 x 2.9k legs, Ray, Christine and John, who pipped Andy, Alison & Jonathan.  Oh, and all ably controlled by another Chaser, Allan Williams.

Ex-Chaser Matt Crane at the World Champs

One of Chasers’ home grown juniors was competing at the World Orienteering Champs in Estonia last week.  Bob Dredge caught up with Matt Crane, who now lives in, and represents, Australia. Matt raced the (brutal) long and middle races. He said he really enjoyed it and being back at WOC.  Matt’s wife Grace is expecting their second child shortly, they are all well and send their best to all Chasers.  Full results of WOC 2017 can be found here.  A good summary, maps and lots of photos of the week’s racing can be found at https://www.maprunner.co.uk/woc2017/

Peel Pursuit 2017 Results

Tonight was the annual Peel Pursuit Handicap Race.  The 4 km race, organised by Jonathan Howell was run around Brocton Coppice, followed by the club BBQ in Jonathan’s garden.  Just for a change it was warm and dry!  Full results are below (if  anything doesn’t look quite right, please contact Jonathan).  The Handicap was won by Andy Yeates, and the fastest runner was Simon Webb – well done both.  A number of runners took slightly scenic routes, so as this is a straight race, recceing the route may be the name of the game next year! 🙂

Peel Pursuit Race and Club BBQ

Next Tuesday is the annual Peel Pursuit Handicap Race, which will be followed by the club BBQ.

Full details can be found on the event page here.      Summary details are:
There is a senior 4 km course and a junior course of 1.9 km. The Pursuit route will be taped – if you can, try and recce the route in advance.

First starters off at 7 pm plus any handicap times. Please let Jonathan Howell know if you plan to run so that handicap times can be allotted.  Please either phone or mail chairman@walton-chasers.co.uk. We need to know in advance if  there are any juniors wanting to do the short course so that marshals can be arranged.

The race will be followed by a barbecue and prize giving at Jonathan’s house, near the start.  Please bring your own food and drink to enjoy in the sunshine!

Chasers at the Showground Relays

Following the demise of the Shugborough Relays after 28 years, the race has moved a few miles and the baton has been taken on by the Showground Relays, again organised by Stafford Harriers.  We only managed the one team this year, with Ray, Andy, Bob and John coming in an excellent 4th place in the UltraSuperVets category.  A lovely sunny evening on a twisty course, lets see if we can round up a few more teams next year!
