2007

Date: What:
02/12/2007 Chasers Juniors 4th at Yvette Baker Trophy (National Junior Club Champs)
The team did Chasers proud, & Iwe couldn’t have expected any more of them

We finished 4th overall, 4 points off third & 6 points off second. We did beat AIRE & DEE (last years winners who beat us in the qualifier), but were behind OD (1st, again!), NOC & WCOC.

Detailed results not yet out but outstanding performances on the day from Will (Light green winner) & Helen (Orange winner), however, everybody did their bit.

30/10/07 Successes over the weekend in 2 events

Midland Champs
The Midland Champs was held in Salcey Forest near Northampton on Sunday. Chasers now have 3 Midland Champions:
Carol Dredge on W50L
Bob Dredge on M55L
Seonaid Dudley on W65L

OMM (Original Mountain Marathon aka KIMM)
Ray Collins and Jonathon Howell put in a sterling performance in the Short Score class to come into 8th place. The event was held in the Lowther Hills, Southern Scotland amidst a mixture of heavy (tent flooding) rain and clear blue skies.

11/10/07 Mark Stodgell placed 9th at the Polaris

The Polaris Challenge is a two-day event, combining mountain biking with navigation. Teams of two (or solo) ride between checkpoints scattered over a large area of rugged country. Each checkpoint has a value and the aim of the challenge is to accumulate as many points as possible within each day’s time limit. Distance and ‘difficult to access’ checkpoints carry higher values and there are tough penalties for exceeding the time limits

I was 9th overall at the polaris and 4th Male solo – just off the podium…….

16/08/07 Chasers at the Scottish 6 Day

24 Chasers were entered for the bi-annual 6 day event that this year was held in Speyside. Based in Grantown-on-Spey, with around 4,000 competitors, we were treated to some of the best terrian in the country, including Inshriach, Culbin and Anagach.

The weather was kind overall (unless you were camping) and we all had the usual mixture of successes and tales of woe. Not too many top ten placings this year, but a fantastic 6th place in M21L for Mike Barnby and 1st place for Pam Emberton in W80. Also, a mention for our adopted Spaniard, Blas Lopez who was 10th in M35S.Photos are in the gallery.

17/07/07 Peel Pursuit (Summer Handicap) Race

Following a very wet day, we got away with a dry run and (more importantly) a dry barbeque – a miracle given the recent weather…..
The main prizes this year went to Mikey Hopkins for fastest runner and Simon Griffiths for handicap winner. Mark Robinson won the junior handicap prize. Thanks to Julie Phelan for organising and for Peter and Jane for hosting the barbeque.

07/07/07 World Champs selection for Matt Crane!

01/07/07 Chasers get 6th place in Peak District Footpath Relay
What a difference a year makes! Last years’ baking hot relay day seemed a different world as the 2007 installment of the Footpath Relay saw rain, rain and more rain. Happily though, it was warm rain and spirits were not dampened.

7/05/07 Chasers have a British Champion this year, Mark Stodgell on M21V!

M18L – 10th – Mikey Hopkins
M55L – 5th – Jonathan Howell
W40S – 5th – Alison Yeates
W45L – 4th – Beth Clayton

In the relays, the same area was blustery but happily dry. A very tricky area for a relay and we only made the top ten in one class. Mikey Hopkins, Mike Barnby and Iain Stamp put in a cracking perfomance to get 6th place in the Men’s Premier.

Well done to everyone who completed their courses – if you can orienteer here, you can orienteer anywhere!
